OAA’s Ghana project works with the Carolyn A. Miller Elementary School, an educational institution for orphaned children in the Buduburam refugee camp. In addition to youths who have been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS, the Carolyn A. Miller Elementary School also supports youngsters who lost their parents due to the 14-year civil war in Liberia. The school has 248 students between the ages of 3 and 17 and there are many more street children who would like to attend but cannot due to the institution’s limited financial resources. There are currently six classrooms; all the teachers are volunteers. The curriculum consists, in part, of HIV/AIDS education and counseling. The school has also partnered with the Ghana Foundation of Human Development (GFHD), a national NGO that works in the area of HIV/AIDS education and basic healthcare. ![]()
